Advent Poem 2

thin layer of snow covers roofs
ready to melt and trickle into eaves
at the first sign of southern warmth

Santa’s sleigh won’t have much to land on
at this rate

but the sun is shining
tempering this cold day
in Manitoba
in early December

glinting lovely light off roofs
and brightening the snow-covered lawn
beside the shadow of dark trees
