deluge (water poem VIII)

drowning in snow
forty inches falling and sticking to every surface
every evergreen branch laden
bent to the ground with wet heavy snow

I am Noah
building a future in this deluge
negotiating with God
who wants to start over-------begin again

and so I
dig out from under the
mounds of snow
already plummeting from branches
and greet the blueing sky
and rainbow arch of the
mighty spruce bough
